The cost of a golf cart is comparable to that of a small electric vehicle. Regular maintenance of a golf cart can not only extend its service life but also ensure that its performance is maximized. The following eight aspects will tell you how to properly maintain a golf cart.
01
Vehicle Cleaning
LEROAD
Cleaning the entire golf cart not only makes the vehicle body more beautiful and clean, but also makes the driver and passengers feel more pleasant. However, when cleaning the entire vehicle, the following points should be noted:
To avoid damage and destruction of the outer cover parts, it is advisable to avoid using high-pressure machines for flushing as much as possible.
To reduce damage to the exterior paint surface, do not use rough or reactive solvents to clean the plastic parts.
Thoroughly clean the accumulated sediments in the enclosed areas, and try to avoid directly flushing the exposed electrical components during the cleaning process.

02
Brake System Maintenance
LEROAD
The braking system is crucial for driving safety. Once there is a problem with the braking system, the consequences can be unimaginable. Therefore, in daily maintenance, for the maintenance of the braking system, not only should the time required in the maintenance manual be followed, but also regular maintenance should be carried out according to the driving mileage.
Check the sensitivity of the vehicle's brakes every day and adjust them in a timely manner.
Regularly check the usage status of the brake pads, and clean the powder inside the brake drum in a timely manner. If it is found that the thickness of the brake drum is less than 2-3 millimeters and the brake pads are severely worn, the brake drum and brake pads should be replaced with new ones in a timely manner.
During the normal cleaning process of the vehicle, try to avoid directly flushing the brake drum to prevent the internal parts of the brake and the surface of the brake drum from oxidizing and rusting. If rust is found on the surface, the rusty part on the surface can be removed with sandpaper.
Regularly check the condition of the brake cable and clean the surface rust in a timely manner.
Regularly check the height of the brake fluid, check whether the brake oil pipe is leaking oil every day, and replenish the brake fluid and replace the damaged brake oil pipe in a timely manner.
When installing the oil pipe, pay attention to the tightening torque of the joint. Only when the sealing performance is ensured to be good, then carry out the air release operation. Otherwise, the quality of air release cannot be achieved.
03
Maintenance of the Front Suspension Structure
LEROAD
The suspension of a golf cart is the connecting mechanism between the vehicle's wheels and the body, and it is part of the vehicle's running system. It is composed of elastic elements, guiding mechanisms, shock absorption elements, and a lateral stabilizer bar. The suspension can mitigate the impact exerted on the wheels by the road surface, determine the position of the wheels and the axles, and improve the grip of the wheels on the road surface, etc. Therefore, regular maintenance and servicing are of great help to the riding comfort and handling stability of the golf cart. So, how should we carry out the specific maintenance? Here are several points:

Regularly inspect the wear status of the rubber bushings that connect the front suspension steering rocker arm with the steering knuckle and the shock absorber. If the wear is severe, they need to be replaced in a timely manner. Otherwise, it will lead to steering play, abnormal noises, etc.
Regularly check the lubricating oil condition of the steering gear and the steering knuckle. If the lubrication is insufficient, add lubricating oil in a timely manner to ensure its normal operation, and avoid serious wear of the steering gear and other components due to lack of lubrication, which may cause mechanical failures.
Regularly check the connection status of each component, reinforce the loose components in a timely manner, and eliminate potential safety hazards.
04
Maintenance of the Rear Axle
LEROAD
During the use of the golf cart, the rear axle housing is often contaminated with dirt and dust, and oil may leak between the screw plugs. It is necessary to carry out timely maintenance to ensure the normal operation of the rear axle.
Regularly remove the dirt and dust from the breather plug of the rear axle housing.
Regularly check the oil filler hole screw plug and the oil drain hole screw plug. If oil leakage is found, tighten them in a timely manner or replace the sealing gasket.
Every 2000 kilometers of driving, fill the No. 2 lithium-based grease into each grease nipple, and clean the breather plug; check the tightening condition of the half-shaft bolts, and check the gear oil level in the axle housing (open the oil level bolt for inspection).
05
Tire Maintenance
LEROAD
The tires are the only components of a golf cart that come into direct contact with the ground. Together with the electric vehicle suspension, they help to cushion the impact that the vehicle experiences during driving. In the hot summer and the freezing winter, when a golf cart is driven outdoors, there are relatively high requirements for the quality of the tires and tire maintenance. The better the maintenance, the longer the service life of the tires.
Before use, please check the condition of the vehicle tires, such as whether there is air leakage, severe wear or damage. In case of the above situations, please adjust the toe-in in a timely manner or replace the tires with new ones. Otherwise, it will reduce the service life of the tires or cause accidents such as tire blowouts that endanger personal safety.
Tire pressure: For 4-ply tires, the pressure should be within the range of 17-22 PSI (1.17-1.52 bar); for 6-ply tires, the pressure should be within the range of 29-34 PSI (2.0-2.35 bar). If the weather is hot, the tire pressure should be reduced accordingly to prevent the tires from exploding in an overheated environment.

06
Battery Maintenance
LEROAD
Battery degradation has always been an issue that electric golf carts have to face. The cost of the battery accounts for a large proportion of the total price of the vehicle. Effective maintenance can slow down the reduction of the battery's service life. If the battery needs to be replaced, it is only necessary to replace some of the battery modules that require replacement. So, how exactly should we maintain the battery?

Be sure to use the standard vehicle-mounted charger for charging. Using a charger with a power exceeding the standard to charge the vehicle may damage the battery performance, thus accelerating the battery degradation.
Do not overcharge or over-discharge. The same applies to the battery. Generally, for a golf cart, charging the battery to 50% - 90% is the best for the battery (there is no impact on a lithium iron phosphate battery when it is fully charged).
If the vehicle is parked for a long time, try to keep the battery level above 50%. When a golf cart is generally idle, it will still consume a small amount of electricity every day. Therefore, it is necessary to regularly check the battery level to avoid damage to the battery performance caused by the complete depletion of the battery power. If possible, try to keep the battery level above 50%.
Park in an environment with an appropriate temperature. Any battery is not suitable for long-term storage in an extremely high or extremely low temperature environment. Most automobile manufacturers define it as "not to be stored for a long time in an environment above 60°C or at -30°C", and the long-term period is defined as 8 hours or more than 24 hours. At the least, it will damage the battery performance, and at the worst, it may cause spontaneous combustion.
Check the condition of the battery terminals and battery cables, and clean and replace the faulty batteries and battery cables in a timely manner.
07
Maintenance of Electric Control Components
LEROAD
As is well known, the controller is like the brain of an electric vehicle. It controls the starting, stopping, forward and backward movement, speed, and other functions of a golf cart.
Regularly check the tightness of all electrical components to avoid loose connections.
Regularly carry out anti-corrosion maintenance on all connectors, and clean the sundries and oxides inside the connectors.
08
Operation and Maintenance of the Motor
LEROAD
As a relatively core component of a golf cart, whether the motor functions properly or not will directly affect the normal use of the entire vehicle. Regular maintenance of the motor is the most effective way to ensure its proper operation.

After using the golf cart for half a year, we need to add lubricating oil to the bearings and gears inside the motor to increase its running speed and reduce the noise generated during the motor's operation.
At the same time, we also need to inspect the carbon brushes. If they are severely worn, then we must replace the carbon brushes.
It is also necessary to clean the carbon powder inside the brushed motor, and wash the surface of the electrical appliances, the surface of the magnetic steel, etc.
Due to its special structure and material selection, the brushless motor does not require frequent maintenance. Basically, after using it for 12 to 24 months, add lubricating grease to its bearing gears, clean the magnetic steel, and make sure that the motor does not get water inside.
Check whether there is rust on the magnetic steel of the motor, and remove the rust from the magnetic steel. At the same time, detect the wear degree of the carbon brushes and the commutator of the golf cart. Generally, the carbon brushes should be replaced when they are worn to a distance of 4 to 5mm from the lead wires, and the commutator should be replaced when the depth of its surface is greater than 0.5mm.
The above are the skills on how to maintain a golf cart. These eight suggestions are all practical, and all car owners can add them to their favorites for reading.
